Tacit Understanding
If we read this with Japanese native pronunciation, we can understand this as “By means of the heart, passing on to the heart”.
In Zen, the essence of Buddhist teachings, which cannot be expressed in characters or words, is said to be conveyed from the master’s heart to the follower’s.
There are times when it is difficult to pass along our ideas to someone else just with words.
Rather than relying on the words at the tip of your tongue, if you can communicate with your “frank heart” important matters can be directly shared.

以心伝心 （いしんでんしん）
訓読みすると「こころを以て、こころに伝う」となります。
禅宗では、文字や言葉で表することができない仏法の神髄は、師から弟子の「心」に伝えたとされています。
文字や言葉を使って、相手に本意を伝えることの難しい時があります。
小手先の言葉に頼り切らず、「素直な心」を伝え合うことが出来たら、真っ直ぐ大切な事が伝わります。
